2007 Tournament Schedule and Rules

Small Boat Season! Get ready to pull those start cords and haul those anchors as Goggle-Eye season is here again, and the Barbados Yacht Club is the venue for the weigh-In with the first tournament next Saturday night. As usual, all boats must reach the weigh-In before 11:30 PM, and fishing may not commence prior to 6:00 PM (nb. boats may leave the dock prior to this but not put their lines in the water). We have concluded negotiations for another FANTASTIC prize for the overall Small Boat Champion, and in this regard we are pleased to announce that the prize is a new 16’ Dinghy from A&T Marine Ltd. complete with a 15 HP Evinrude outboard motor from McEnearney Alstons. We really have to thank these two sponsors for again offering this wonderful overall prize to keep up the interest, as well as the sponsors of the individual events that are currently being negotiated and without whom it would not happen. The competition and camaraderie last year was fantastic, and we hope to see a return of this again this year. Competition will be keen to unseat the reigning champion Adam Godson and his motley crew of eaters and drinkers, and the late run by the Nordic invaders on Lady Joy last year served notice that things will be very tight. We also hope to see a return of the junior anglers, with hopefully many of their friends and family. The overall points system for the Small Boat Championship is the same again:  1st – 5 pts, 2nd – 4 pts, 3rd – 3 pts, 4th – 2 pts, 5th – 1 pt, all other positions no points, with your best 2 results from the Goggle-Eye and best 2 from the Barracuda being added together to decide the champion. In the event of a tie for the overall prize, the tiebreaker will be that the winning boat will be the one with the biggest barracuda of the boats tied. A tie during an individual tournament will see the tied vessels sharing equally the points available for the available positions (e.g. two boats tied for 1st will share 9 points and each get 4.5 points, while the next boat in line will place 3rd).  We have restructured the tournaments this year to include a points system similar to the Offshore Tournaments in an effort to reward the other classes of fish, as well as the juniors and ladies, and in so doing make the tournaments more competitive. The following points structure will now be in place to judge the overall winners and other places for each individual tournament, and then the previously mentioned Championship points will be allocated for teams to take forward, with the overall Champion being adjudged as the team with the highest total from their best 2 tournaments of each series (i.e. best 2 Goggle-Eye and best 2 Barracuda).
