Roo Roo Hanging Tough at #1

The Goggle-Eye tournaments ended with a bang, and the old veteran Peter “Roo Roo” Roett in Cool N’Easy II wrapped things up with a comprehensive victory and what could be best described as a family affair with his whole family joining him in the effort this year, and then John Williams and his daughter providing great assistance as well as perhaps getting some needed fresh air for the ‘St. Thomas Fisherman’ from the many boardrooms that he is forced to inhabit these days. Roo Roo overcame engine troubles, youthful exuberance, and newer faster boats with his expert knowledge and skill to take the series comprehensively, and now be in a good position to take the overall Small Boat Championship.

The Barracuda series got off to a late start with Captain Mark Roach in Lady Joy once again starting where they left off last year by winning the opening Barracuda Tournament, and again rekindling the lively debate between them and their Southern counterparts as to who really are the best fishermen, as their archrivals from the South Hip-Nautic were narrowly beaten by one point into second place after hooking the most fish, while Lady Joy exploited the old adage that Quality beats Quantity with the heaviest fish of the day to take top honours. The much anticipated head-to-head clash may not be coming anytime soon, however, as the Northern invaders’ covert spy mission to the South on the afternoon prior to the tournament resulted in them sustaining a casualty and forcing a hasty retreat home after one of the Roaches were bitten on the nose by a barracuda, proving yet again that “cock Roach ain’t got no right in fowl cock pen”. Yogi Bear has still not come out from under the weight of his Blightitious condition, and his newest victim Alex Cole with his lovely new vessel were the latest in a long string of victims to add to Birkett’s collection.

The Committee of Management would like to thank everyone who participated, and look forward to an extremely contested series, as the overall points are much closer than you think since boats drop their worst score of the three tournaments. The results are as follows:

Flying Fish and Turpit

Flying Fish buoy…………..ah been gone fuh a while, but boy oh boy have tings been ruff.  What is dis I hearin? Is you in trute Turpit?  Man I ain’t hear you fuh weeks now. Yes Fish, I back, but tings been hectic bout de place as I wuz bizzy hittin drinks up in Jamaica and den get waylaid in Martinique before getting back here. Well what news ya got fuh me den……spit it out. Fish boy, I ain’t know what to tell yah except evrawhere I go I does butt up pun Bajans. Tek Jamaica, ah breeze in dere lookin to learn bout de dutty wine under cover when I see some Bajans who fly all de way up dere to represent we manage to only hook de Coast Guard Boat. What ya telling me Turpit?  Is true man, but dat ain’t nuttin, cause when I wuz down Martinique side we did lookin a little better as a Boat wid a Bajan Skipper finally won something, but not before he test out de depth in de marina again. Man he wuz so excited dat he run an leff everubody to get home wid de news. Turpit boy it sound like you need some rest, so try an tek it easy but be careful, as bout here ain’t easy neither, as I understand dat a boat wid two captains recently had a big day fishing but what got me confused how one of their more "hulky" members get fuzz out tired in de fighting chair after catching just one kingfish, and then called for help when the shark bit on a second rod that he was at, mekking de other “Tall Boy” Captin leave his usual position at de helm to come downstairs and tek over de rod and tame de shark. Wuhloss, an de nex week out when de Tall Boy Visa get revoke de boat barely raise 2 stick kings. Don’t worry Fish my man, I getting reddy fuh some action pon de Fathom, as I got concrete infumation dat wid all dis drillin an block mekkin dat we goin get some warm dollars to fight over in de nex few tournaments. De fellas put up some cash and den win it back last year so we gine see if dem gine test dey luck again dis year, but dem ain’t know dat I intend to spoil dere plans. Well Turpit you like you on to sumting boy, cause I hear when de Hip-Nautic Captin hear dat he get beat again by de boys in de North he fall out he own boat!. Anyhow, he say he ain’t too worried cause he gine try and get de man dat laughing hardest to tek over as Captin since like he never win nuttin when he in control uh de helm. Wuhloss Fish, dem is fightin words………ah gone fuh now on dat note before ah get lock up!
